QUOTE (Bradley @ Oct 30 2007, 03:49 AM) *
QUOTE (Thomas)
Bono is not a public persona for giving money to poor people. He has been making music since the 70's... (and he made very good stuff)

Right, he did make music which was popular, but he hasnít made an album for three years. Heís not in the public eye right now for making popular music; heís in the public eye for his political activism.

QUOTE (Thomas)
How can you say that he frauds everyone about giving money to the poor? You don't have any rights to say that. How much money do you give to poor people? I bet it is much less, counting in percentage.

It certainly is, but then I donít claim to be dedicated to making poverty history. He does.

QUOTE (Thomas)
You don't have any evidence to believe that he likes his luxury more than giving money to poor people.

The fact that he retains his life of luxury when there are people living and dying in poverty.

Your treating his political activism and charity work as it being a bad thing. Lots of rich people that do charity work maintain their luxury while people are dying in poverty (most of the artists in Live 8 in 2005). They are entitled to their luxury and besides I bet if you a celebrity at the end of the day doing toones upon tonnes of charity work you do deserve some luxury.

I don't think his political activism is a bad thing; quite the contrary. He's definitely done some good for Africa, and I don't question his right to keep his luxuries if that's what's important to him. What I do question is his self-made image of a man who cares deeply about the poor. When you consider that he chooses to keep his life of luxury when people are starving, the image seems insincere.
